Hi buddies, have loved my Tbird since i got her, phenominal bit of kit, but today i visited a local dealer and they had a Rocket 3 classic which was just edible. Out of curiousity i asked what they would give for trade in for mine against it. Wow, offered more than i paid for it 1 and a half year ago, no brainer, hello mrs Rocket.

I like all Triumphs! And some are concerned about Thunderbird resale value. But I ain't selling (a great machine). Imo, the Thunderbird 1700 surpasses the Rocket in market value (not hp)....

Congrats on your new Rocket.

When I did buy my Bird, I also looked at the Rocket too, and sure, it's a nice bike, but in the end there was no doubt in my mind. The Bird, as a parallel twin, together with the all over appearance, has the most Triumph heritage.

Not true Dave!...over a 400 km trip on my Roadster I averaged 18km per litre, taking it easy......Nowadays after many mods I'm getting 14....not too bad I'm thinking..and that's letting her go on the odd accasion!...like they say "Theres no substituite for horsepower!"

Not entirely true.

Driving skills.

A close friend of mine, a keen and aggressive sport bike rider, attended a private driving course on a race track. All day he practiced with the instructor, and at the end of the day, he had gained a lot of driving skills. He was very cocky.
The final test !. He took of the starting grid, with the instructor starting 100m later. At the finish line, the instructor had overtaken him by 100m, on the exact same bike, AND WITH HIS GIRLFRIEND ON THE BACKSEAT.

Actually,the correct quote is:

"There's no substitute for "CUBIC INCHES"!!"

Regarding fuel mileage:The best I've done with my Tbird is 56 MPG as advertised by Triumph, but, that's driving the machine conservatively, keeping the cruising speed in the 50-55 mph range, and staying in high [6th] gear.My normal driving habbits keep me in the 48-52 mpg range which ain't bad taking into consideration the over sized C Baily's windscreen I'm using.

Just cruising, my brother's RocketIII roadster has better tank range than my Storm. As does my 'Busa which I've squeezed 185miles out of a tank despite one quick 150+mph blast and 3 or 4 roll-on races with the Rocket (which the Rocket won comfortably) so it wasn't exactly an economy run.
